Currently in the Twin Cities — August 16, 2024: A few more showers and then a sunny weekend
Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever
The weather, currently.
A few more showers then a sunny weekend
We picked up some more rainfall Wednesday night. Most Twin Cities area amounts were between one half and one inch. The MSP airport picked up 0.74 inches officially, but we could see more before the system exits Friday night. Look for more spotty showers and a few thunderstorms to pinwheel around the low into Friday.
The system still looks to exit Friday night with decreasing clouds into Saturday. Highs will be near 80 Saturday and into the low to mid 80s Sunday. Sunday looks sunnier than Saturday but both days should be dry. The dry spell persists through Wednesday.
What you can do, currently.
A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.
Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
