Currently in the Twin Cities — August 29, 2024: Very warm with a round of strong storms
Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever
The weather, currently.
Another very warm day with a round of strong storms
We have our second cool front of the week tracking towards Minnesota for Thursday. Ahead of it, it will be a very warm and humid day. Highs will be in the mid 80s with dew points back near 70 and a south breeze.
The cold front will spawn a line of storms in western Minnesota by late afternoon that will then track east into the evening. Strong to severe storms could be possible with damaging wind gusts and large hail.
Behind that front however it will be much more comfortable Friday into the holiday weekend. Highs will be near 80 and dew points will finally drop into the 50s.
What you can do, currently.
A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.
Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
