Currently in the Twin Cities — July 15, 2024: Morning thunderstorms

Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever

The weather, currently.

Morning thunderstorms, then a cool down

Scattered storms will move through the region Monday morning ahead of a cool front. Some storms could be strong to severe. It’ll still be in the mid 80s and humid.

Behind the cool front on Tuesday, dew points will drop along with cooler air. Temps will be just in the 70s Tuesday & Wednesday and weather should be dry Tuesday into the weekend.

We’ve only had one stretch of 7 consecutive days without measurable rainfall since mid March. We could finally see that matched after Monday. Temperatures will warm some by the weekend into next week.

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
