Currently in the Twin Cities — June 2, 2023

The weather, currently.

Midday sun, hot, steamy; late day thunder

The forecast is very much ‘copy, paste’ the next few days yet. Friday may very well be our 4th 90 degree day of the season. Considering an average June only sees a total of 3, you can guess where we may be headed this first month of meteorological summer. We’ll look for more spotty t-storms to pop up late in the afternoon again Friday and Saturday. The chance looks to be more isolated and mainly in western Minnesota Sunday and Monday. We may also see some slightly cooler temps next week, in the mid 80s. Until then, it’s steamy.

What you need to know, currently.

A Tropical Depression has formed in the central Gulf of Mexico, and is expected to continue bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to most of Florida over the coming few days.

Even though hurricane season just started on Thursday, this depression is the second cyclone of the season. A subtropical storm formed in the Atlantic Ocean in mid-January, but was only recognized months later after forecasters reexamined old weather maps. If this week’s cyclone, TD2, continues to strengthen, it would be given the name ‘Arlene’.
