plus, the worst air quality in decades hits the East Coast

The weather, currently.

Partly cloudy, much more comfortable Wednesday

Wednesday will be just around 80 degrees for a high, which is cooler but the big difference will be the dew points. They’ll be in the dry 40s versus the sticky 60s we’ve had. We’ll also see our coolest overnight temperatures in about 10 days, falling into the upper 50s to around 60 early Thursday morning. Believe it or not the NORMAL low temperature is 58°F. We’ve been consistently above that for the past 10 days. The next chance of showers will come Friday into Saturday as another cool front drops temps even more Sunday.

What you need to know, currently.

Eastern North America is currently experiencing one of the worst air quality outbreaks in decades.

Smoke from a record-setting start to wildfire season in Canada has been streaming across the border all week, darkening skies, and sending people to hospitals.

At one point on Tuesday, the air quality index for New York City was one of the worst in the world, peaking at 157 — that’s 11.9 the WHO air quality guideline value for particulate pollution and considered ‘unsafe’ for all people.

If air quality alerts are affecting the place you live, please take them seriously. Wear masks, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and check on your neighbors. The CDC has a guide for protecting yourself from wildfire smoke.
