The hottest Labor Day weekend on record

Friday marks the beginning of meteorological fall and of course September. There’s almost no reason to believe that this September won’t be a very warm one. It’s one of our fastest warming months over recent decades and we’re starting it with a potentially record-breaking heat wave. Not only could we have the hottest Labor Day (97 is the record), it will be the most notable September heat wave in 45 years. We haven’t had as many consecutive days in the 90s (as forecast: 4+) since 1978 in the month of September.

The latest drought monitor also showed worsening drought with the Twin Cities back in severe drought.
